Measuring The Mental Load

Research

Prof. Leah Ruppanner was recently named an Australian Research Council Future Fellowships recipient, and was awarded $1.2 million to research and expand her work on The Consequences of the Mental Load for Australian Families for the next four years.

The mental load is a term for the invisible labour or “thinking work” involved in managing a household and family, which typically falls on women's shoulders. On top of this, the world of work is changing, and the mental load is a critical tool to understand the burnout, exhaustion, and attrition of a diverse workforce.

To help Australian families and organisations manage their unique and diverse mental loads, Prof. Ruppanner is developing a Mental Load Audit to measure the invisible labour individuals manage both in the home and at work.

If you are interested in participating in our research, we are recruiting mothers and fathers who want to share their experiences. Click on the link below (takes 1 minute to fill out - not intended to add to your mental load!): https://forms.gle/wCFpNmKZiwArR6zG7
